MT4 on Mac and Windows: Features and compatibility

Compare MT4 functionality on Mac and PC, including charting, indicators, EAs, order types, market access, account management, customization, updates, and trading operations.

MT4 for Mac and PC is intended to provide the same core trading functions, but actual availability can differ by installer or build, macOS or Windows version, device, permissions, broker configuration, account, and current product support. Check the functions shown in the current platform before relying on equivalence.

Core functions to check in your current installation

  • Charting and the timeframes available in your installed MT4 build

  • Built-in indicators and analytical tools supported by that build

  • Compatible Expert Advisors (EAs), subject to installation and permissions

  • One-click trading where supported and enabled

  • Order types supported by the account and instrument

  • Instruments available on your FXT account and server

  • Account information and trading functions shown in the terminal

  • Supported chart and workspace customization

Many charting, order, account-management, and Expert Advisor functions may be available on both platforms. Updates, plug-ins, Expert Advisors, shortcuts, and supported operations can differ, so switching devices may require compatibility checks and should not be assumed to preserve every function.

Use the current official installer and release information for your operating system. Platform choice does not guarantee identical features, performance, stability, connectivity, or execution.

What to check before changing devices

The official macOS installer sets up a Wine compatibility environment and installs MT4 within it. This differs from a Windows installation. An EA, indicator or add-on that works on Windows should not be assumed to work identically on Mac, especially if it depends on external libraries or other software. Check compatibility for the actual operating system and installation.

Connecting to the same trading account does not automatically transfer local templates, profiles, custom programs or their settings. Keep copies of the files you need and verify them in the destination installation before removing the old setup. Check the data folder provided by your installed platform; do not assume a Windows folder path is the Mac path.

The operating system does not by itself expand the instruments available to your account. You can also access supported real and demo MT4 accounts through Web Trader and FXTRADING.com App, but desktop functions are not automatically available there. EAs cannot be installed or run in FXTRADING.com App.
